My Entry for the Writing Prompt Contest at A Falling Star!

Emily U over at A Falling Star is holding a writing prompt contest, and here's my entry! :) (It's open until the end of May, so if you want to enter you definitely have time. I advise checking it out if you haven't already, and I definitely think any of you who are writers or just enjoy writing on occasion would really like it. :) )

The prompt I chose is the second picture prompt. Here it is:

And here's my entry:

If My Ladder Can Reach the Sky
by Ellie

If my ladder can reach the sky I'll fly
With the birds who are kings of the air.
And the bluejays and eagles and scarlet macaws
Will allow me to fly with them there.

If my ladder can reach the sky I'll break
Free of society's chains.
And become the person I want me to be,
Not the person they just want to shame.

If my ladder can reach the sky I'll dream
On clouds made of hope and of love.
And I'll read and I'll write and I'll do what I like
On my own little cloud up above.

And to all those people who say to me, claim
That my ladder will not reach the sky:
I say to them, "No, I will get there someday
And on that great day I will fly."

Sooo, that's my entry! Good luck to everyone who enters - I know you'll all do great :).

Namarië,
Ellie

P.S. - Also, I started writing mine this morning, and I'm using the same prompt, and a similar writing style (which I actually might change a bit), but it was not meant to copy you. :)

    2. You're welcome!
:) I changed it a bit (I had a new idea for a sentence I loved, but it didn't work with the way the story was going) and finished it, and it's definitely different, thought my character is also kinda looking for a place to belong. It's kind of similar, but I did change the writing style, so it just kind of has a similar theme, I guess.

  3. When you get to the top of your metaphorical ladder, would you throw me down a metaphorical jet pack?

I love this, the meaning. You are going to win for sure!

    1. Of course, dear. I would love to have you on my little cloud. :)
Thank you so much! :) I don't know. I'm hoping to, but there are a lot of really talented people out there who could take it home just as easily.
