Songs I've Been Loving in July 2015

HEY YOUNG BLOODS.

Wow, July seemed to pass by so fast - did it seem that way to any of you? I can hardly believe I'm already typing up this month's "Songs I've Been Loving" post! But we must get on with it, no matter how much we cannot believe it is already here. So, sans further ado, here we go!

"Falling Slow" by Tori Kelly

"What if I
Messed
Up?
Would you give up
On
Us?
Would you tear the page out like it never ever happened?"

So I was casually playing my Fall Out Boy iTunes Radio one day when I saw a station I hadn't seen before pop up in the "most popular" list. It was the preview for Tori Kelly's album, Unbreakable Smile - for a day or so before the album was released, you could listen to the full thing on iTunes Radio. (You can't anymore, though. :( ) I recognized her name because she'd done a video with Superfruit and I liked a couple of her past songs, so I decided to listen to the album - and this song definitely stuck out. I love how chill it is - you just casually sit back and hum and snap along. Plus, she has a beautiful voice - and the song's in minor. How much more awesome could it be? :)

"Paper Hearts" by Tori Kelly

"I hate this part,
Paper hearts.
And I hold a piece of yours.
Don't think I would just forget about it."

This is one of my old favorite songs of hers I went back to and listened to after the release of Unbreakable Smile, and I fell head over heels in love with it all over again - even harder, this time. It's so very mellow and sweet, besides being an amazing song to listen to to unwind after a tough day. Plus, the lyrics are gorgeous. <3

"Jack Sparrow" by Hans Zimmer

This is the first song off the soundtrack of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (which the second movie in the franchise, for anyone who's interested). I feel like the track so perfectly describes its subject - the quirky, incorrigible, and irreplaceable pirate captain Jack Sparrow. The slightly whimsical, lighter tunes alternating with the heavier, epic parts give this song a huge range of depth - much like Jack - and it's extremely catchy. :)

"Dead!" by My Chemical Romance

"No one ever had much nice to say -
I think they never liked you anyway."

Okay, so, first of all, can we talk about the amazing sass of the lines above?

Secondly, I really really like this song. For me, at least, it's great to listen to when I feel angry, and the strong beat is amazing and something I really enjoy. Plus, I love how it's in minor. Gerard Way's awesomeness has struck again.

"The Sharpest Lives" by My Chemical Romance

"Juliet loves the beat and the lust it commands,
Drop the dagger and lather the blood on your hands, Romeo."

SO CAN I JUST SAY I HAD THIS SONG CONSTANTLY ON REPEAT FOR TWO STRAIGHT WEEKS.

Like I swear I don't even know if I listened to one other song in that time.

I love how it's in minor. I love the lyrics. I love the strong beat. I love how catchy it is. I just love it, love it, love it.

Enough said.

WELL THOSE ARE THE SONGS I'VE BEEN LOVING.

What songs have you been loving? Comment below; I'd love to give them a listen. :)

Also, just a reminder that I'll be gone Wednesday, July 29 (which is tomorrow, actually (and I haven't even started packing *claps* great job Ellie)) 'till Monday, August 3. I won't be posting during that time, but I'll still probably be moderating comments and reading all of your lovely posts - just at a slower rate than usual. :)

WELL, I THINK THAT'S ALL FOR TODAY.

PLANT A TREE.

HUG A DWARF.

AND REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE ALL VERY BEAUTIFUL PICKLES.

Namarië,
Ellie

  2. I liked the 2 My Chemical Romance songs, and the Pirates of the Caribbean one, but not really the 2 at the top. I'm not sure how to explain why.

A list of some of my favorite songs (all from the same genre, I'll come back later with different stuff, maybe.)
Bullet with butterfly wings- smashing pumpkins
    Zero- smashing pumpkins
    The pretender- foo fighters
    Back and forth- foo fighters
    Everlong- foo fighters
    Bridge burning- foo fighters
    See you- foo fighters
    Nothing else matters- Metallica
    Enter sandman-Metallica
    Everything zen- bush
    Machinehead- bush
    Even flow- pearl jam
    Alive - pearl jam
    Unthought known-Pearl jam
    Just breathe - Pearl jam
[the entire Lightning Bolt album playing quietly in the background while I do doll stuff and write posts. Still Pearl Jam.]
Seven nation army- The white stripes
    Blue orchid- the white stripes
    The trees- Rush

Hm. That extended further than I expected. You don't have to listen to them all if you don't want to, I suppose. That was one of the longest end-of-post-question answers I've bothered to write in quite a while.

It seems that I listen to a lot of Pearl Jam.
    Pearl Jam is good.
    Bananas are good.
Always bring a banana to a party.

    1. Mmm yes. They are very different from what I usually like. Perhaps because they are a little more "angsty-girl-in-love" than "screaming-defiance-at-the-universe"?
Those are a lot of songs. I shall listen to a few.
I do not like bananas, as they are far too sweet for me. I do like peeling them, though. I could sit and peel bananas all day, provided someone else would eat them.

I love Famous Last Words. It really speaks to me on a personal level.

  4. I'm a big Tori Kelly fan. Have you heard her song for the movie THE GIVER, called "Silent"? It's amazing and I highly recommend it.
    This is what I've been listening to;
    "Impossible" - Shontelle
    "Fire Meet Gasoline" - Sia
"Empire of Our Own" - RAIGN
"Knockin' On Heaven's Door" - RAIGN
    "Wings" - Birdy
    "White Teeth Teens" - Lorde
"Everybody Wants To Rule The World" - Lorde
    "Another Love" - Tom Odell

That went on longer than I expected it to....

Hope the rest of your summer goes great! xx

(P.S > I hope you don't mind me asking, but I have recently started a writing competition on my blog. Even if you do not wish to enter, it would be great to get some feedback. Thanks!)

  5. So like.
When were u going to tell us about A Very Potter Musical?
CAUSE I DIDNT EVEN KNOW IT EXISTED. (Till I stalked your Pinterest.) [i hate how the comment box only lets you write. Excuse me? I want italics, bold, underline, strike through, fonts {need a sarcasm font}, images, and all that other Jazz. The blogger comments should be more like tumblr.]
And now I'm here eating potato skins and Sriracha sauce laughing my ass off.
    I WANNA GO TO PIGFARTS.
    WITH RUMBLEROAR.
    But it's on Mars.
I skipped over all the singing bits straight to Draco rolling around on the floor and snape's face and Voldemort tap dancing.

Mom just made potato salad and that's where I got the skins from. Will they let me take potato skins to Pigfarts?
Have you bothered to watch potter puppet pals?
Are there any more potter parodies I should see? (I did watch a Harry potter Simpson episode today... That counts, right?)

    1. I was going to have it as a weekly gif eventually and probably also include it in the next ROCF, but I guess I assumed everyone already knew about it - me being new to the fandom, after all.
      SAME SAME SAME.
      SAME SAME SAME AGAIN.
Yeah, except for the Voldy going down song I wasn't in love with the songs, but Draco was perfect.
I do not like potato salad. It is fiend.
      I shall watch it next.
