It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas #5: The Christmas Tag

Hey young bloods! Inspired by J, for this next installment of It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas I'll be doing the Christmas Tag! Hope you enjoy :)

1. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
ASDFGHJKL.

HOGFATHER.

For those of you who are not privileged enough to have read the book or seen the movie before, I shall steal a synopsis from Amazon in order to enlighten your poor souls.

"Who would want to harm Discworld's most beloved icon? Very few things are held sacred in this twisted, corrupt, heartless -- and oddly familiar -- universe, but the Hogfather is one of them. Yet here it is, Hogswatchnight, that most joyous and acquisitive of times, and the jolly old, red-suited gift-giver has vanished without a trace. And there's something shady going on involving an uncommonly psychotic member of the Assassins' Guild and certain representatives of Ankh-Morpork's rather extensive criminal element. Suddenly Discworld's entire myth system is unraveling at an alarming rate. Drastic measures must be taken, which is why Death himself is taking up the reins of the fat man's vacated sleigh . . . which, in turn, has Death's level-headed granddaughter, Susan, racing to unravel the nasty, humbuggian mess before the holiday season goes straight to hell and takes everyone along with it."

AND IT'S JUST PERFECT. Michelle Dockery (she plays Mary in Downton Abbey) KILLS IT as Susan, and Death and Albert are literally the best. Go watch it. You won't regret.

2. Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Actually, I think I've only ever had a green Christmas a couple times. It snows a ton where I live.

3. What is your favorite Christmas song?
PTX's version of "Carol of the Bells":

CAN WE JUST TAKE A MINUTE TO TALK ABOUT MITCH'S VOICE.

4. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Dude, we open all of our presents on Christmas Eve. In my family, Santa Claus actually isn't that big of a deal - he only brings stocking stuffers on Christmas Day - he never brings anything bigger than a travel-sized body lotion or bar of soap. All the presents under the tree (and everything bigger than a bar of soap) are the ones from us to each other (like "To Mom, from Ellie" or "To Ellie, from Grandma".), and we open all those on Christmas Eve. That's actually the main event of our holiday season - the climax for most people is Christmas Day, but for us it's Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is just an aftermath where you laze around the house in your pjs and open your stockings (which usually only takes like 10 minutes).

5. Can you name all Santa's reindeer?
Dasher, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Vixen, Comet, Prancer, Dancer, and RUDOLPH!!
(My favorite was always Comet, in case you care. xD)

6. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
Well, I sort of already did this (oops), but all my cousins and aunts on my mom's side always come in town in mid-December to make wandas, which are Italian....um.....dessert....things.....here, I'll just show you a picture:

7. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Real.

8. What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?
Wandas. See above.

9. Be honest: Do you like giving or receiving gifts more?
Giving, if the person I've spent my time planning, buying/making, and wrapping a present for isn't all like "Oh, that's.....nice, thank you." If they're genuinely grateful for at least the time I put into the thing, then I'm a giver, but if they want to be ungrateful, I'm a receiver all the way.

10. What made you realize the truth about Santa?
When I was three and thought to myself, "Reindeers can't fly. That's illogical. So Santa can't exist."
Vulcan in training, right here.

11. Do you make New Year's resolutions? Do you stick to them?
Um. No. Tbh, I need more drive and motivation to do such a thing than can be provided by it just being 2016.

12. What is your favorite Christmas color?

Guess.

13. Do you like to stay in your pjs or dress up for Christmas?
Pajamas all the way, baby.

14. Have you ever built a gingerbread house?
When I was little, I did it a couple of times with my dad. Also once when I was in sixth grade, for a school project.

15. What do you like to do on your Christmas break?
Internet, write, and sleep. It's called a "break" for a reason, honey.

16. Favorite Christmas smell?
Ooh, that's hard, but probably peppermint.

17. Candy canes or gingerbread men?
Oh! That's hard too. I think candy canes because I tend to like their taste better, but gingerbread men are really fun to decorate.

18. Have you ever made a snowman?
EVERY YEAR I MAKE AT LEAST ONE.
(see previous comment about getting a ton of snow)

19. What's your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
Actually, just my house. For some reason, I get really bothered if we're anywhere other than home during Christmas. It just doesn't feel like Christmas then, you know?

20. Are you a pro present-wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
I used to be really bad, but I think this year I'm getting better.

21. Most memorable Christmas?
I feel like everyone says something really touching and deep for this, but I don't really have anything. I have a feeling it's yet to come :)

22. What makes the holiday special for you?
Just the general atmosphere of it, I guess. Everyone's so much nicer and so excited and they put up lights and things and everything looks all festive. It's just a really happy time.

Well, that's all for today! I nominate anyone who wants to do this :) plant a tree, hug a dwarf, and remember that you are all very beautiful pickles. :)

Namarië,
Ellie

  7. That dessert looks wonderful, and I'm so glad you're having a wonderful holiday season.
You usually have white Christmases? Here in the U.S. there are record breaking highs this year! It was 70 degrees today, actually.
    Happy Holidays!

    1. Thank you!
I live in the U.S. too, actually (Iowa, to be specific, where we have boiling summers and freezing winters instead of the nice temperate weather we're supposed to have). This year it looks like we're going to have a green Christmas, but usually they're white :)
Happy holidays to you too, love!
