Songs I've Been Loving in December 2015 (+ Survey!)

"Dance Miserable" by Patrick Stump

Ooh, the right side's in the wrong,
And what's left's just holding on,
And the public has been privatized.

I first tried listening to Soul Punk several months ago, but the sound just didn't resonate with me for some reason. However, I recently came back to it, and I've fallen head over heels in love with it. I love the strong beat each song offers, and the electronic vibe is ultra cool, too. This song has to be my favorite off the album - love the lyrics, and it's super catchy.

"Yellow Flicker Beat" by Lorde

They used to shout my name, now they whisper it.

I'm a huge fan of Lorde, but this is one song I never really listened to. Everyone's always like "OMG YELLOW FLICKER BEAT IS SO GOOOOOODDDD", so recently I decided to try it out, and man. The lyrics are breathtaking, as always, and Lorde's vocals amazing. 10/10 Christmas trees, a must listen.

"Hot Air Balloon" by Owl City

We wrote a prelude
To our own fairytale
And bought a parachute
At a church rummage sale
And with a mean sewing machine
And miles of thread
We sewed the day above L.A.
In navy and red.

I remember in - was it seventh, eighth grade? - falling in love with this song and listening to it on repeat for a solid month before drifting away from it. Then, one day in the shower a couple of weeks ago, the tune just randomly came back to me, and I had to listen to it again - and I haven't been able to stop.

I love the vivid yet whimsical and fun lyrics and light-hearted tune - it makes for a great song to listen to when you want cheering up. Does anyone specially recommend anymore Owl City songs? I'd love to try some more :)

"Under a Paper Moon" by All Time Low

Me and you,
Living under a paper moon,
This real life just isn't right,
Let's get away.
Let's fabricate.

You now how everyone has that one song that describes them, and I had yet to find mine?

Well, I found it.

The whole concept of this song (at least, how I personally interpret it) speaks of running away to a land in your own imagination, a land you build up with all your favorite things and people, when you want to escape the pointless but horrible machines of the real world - the mean people, the obsession society has with college education, the beauty and success standards, etc. That really speaks to me and describes my everyday attitude, because, well - don't know if you've noticed the title of my blog - but almost half the time I'm not really in-tune with life, I'm rather wandering around inside my mind in my own little reality, which is my way of coping with the "real" world and, I think, the reason I'm able to live through it.

So yeah. That's why I connect so much to this song, and that's why I've been loving it.

"begin again" by Purity Ring

You be the moon, I'll be the Earth
And when we burst
Start over, oh, darling,
Begin again,
Begin again.

So I was just casually listening to my Spotify, right? And then this ad pops up (because I'm too cheap to get Premium lmao) advertising some sort of playlist for some duo called "Purity Ring". And at the end of the ad they played a snippet of this song and I was like oH MY GOSH.

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE.

WHY HAVE I NOT HEARD OF THEM BEFORE.

MUST LISTEN NOWWWWWW.

So then I looked them up a spent the next several hours listening to another eternity on repeat, and man is it good. I kept coming back to this song as my favorite, though - the chorus is absolutely to-die-for, and Megan's voice is beautiful. Speaking of Megan James (one half of Purity Ring), here's a picture of her and Corin Roddick (the other half):

but is her hair not the coolest thing guys that's like my dream hair (if I could even pull off long hair lmao)

Oh, and I created a survey for you to give me feedback on my blog! Click here to take it - I'd really appreciate it. :)

Well, I think that's all for today! What songs have you been loving this month? Have you discovered any new artists recently? Comment below, and have an awesome day. :)

Ellie

  2. Excellent picks! :D I hadn't heard of any of these songs previously, but Owl City is always wonderful. The only song I know by Lorde is, of course, Royals.

Some songs I've personally been loving are various songs by Evanescence (especially My Immortal and Going Under), Wide Awake by Katy Perry, New Divide by Linkin Park, and oh so many more.. :) Lots of older stuff, too, like The Beatles.

Also I took your survey and I am now an Elf. ^^ I was planning on doing something similar for my blog soon. It's always good to check in with your readers! (Honestly, I just want to use Google Forms whenever I can. It's fun lol).

    1. Thank you! :) Yeah, he is.
OH MY GOSH EVANESCENCE. I really liked them a couple of years ago, but I'd forgotten about them until recently.....do you know the title of that song of theirs that goes "wheeeere will you go, there's no one left to save you from yourself, you can't escape the truth, I realize you're afraid"? Cause that was the first song of theirs I discovered and I can't for the life of me remember the title?? Oh, and there was this other one I really liked - but I can't remember any of the lyrics, lmao xD
      I agree!

    2. I loooove them! I'm pretty new to the music world, but Evanescence is one that I knew I always liked.

lolllll well I can't help you with the second one, but, after some googling, I believe the first song that you're looking for is Where Will You Go.

  3. YELLOW FLICKER BEAT! I don't think I can even begin to describe how much I love Lorde or that song.

My favorite lyric has to be:
It keeps my veins hot, the fires find a home in me
(But honestly I love every lyric the first verse so)
Plus there was this amazing dance solo to it that I loved <3 (but didn't get to do)

Also, I love Under the Paper Moon.

    Lovely song choices.

    1. IKR!?!? It was a post you did way back in February or March that alerted me of its existence, actually.
I love the melody there :)
      Aw, thank you :)

  4. Owl City is probably one of the most important and influential music things to me so yes I totally recommend all of Adam's songs. All Things Bright and Beautiful is my fave album-- I think you'd like a lot of his stuff.
I'm so glad to hear you found a song that just really resonates with and describes you. ^_^
I recently discovered Ghost Town so I've been loving their music a lot this month. Probably wrong to be listening to music that's Halloween-like around Christmas but ah well.
Also been utterly obsessed with A Day to Remember. Life @ 11 is one that I've had on repeat a lot, as well as the whole Common Courtesy album. (They did a really neat thing where they included little snippets of their studio conversations at the end of some of the songs and I just really love the whole "intimate" feel of it. One of the tracks has them talking for five minutes just about all the mishaps they've had on tour and it's hilarious. I love it.)
You mentioned Purity Ring in one of your comments on my post and I kid you not, a day later I was rifling through records at a store and found an album of theirs on vinyl. Totally made me think of you. :)

  5. I don't know any of these songs, but I don't feel like listening to them right now, but I will be sure to listen to them later. :)

The song that describes me is Who Are You Now by Sleeping With Sirens, by the way. There are a few others that also describe me, but not as well as that one.

    And also MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE.

    2. PPS: Another great artist that I have discovered is Daniel Kim. He creates mash-ups of all the year's top songs. They are SUPER fun to listen to. He's done mash-ups of 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. I highly recommend. ;)
