This Week: A (Probably Boring) Recap

by - 6:28 PM

Inspired by this post.

What thin dusting of snow we had over Christmas mostly melted, leaving just wet streets and grass behind. The day was quite foggy - particularly in the afternoon. I lazed around all morning in my new fleecy pajamas, then eventually forced myself to get up and get dressed to go bring my neighbor's newspaper in. (He's off in California for the holidays, and he's paying me to get his newspaper and letters every morning.) After dinner, my parents and I played Last Word!, a board game Mama found in the basement that we'd evidently forgotten about. It was super fun - and I won both times. ;)

Sunday was really fun - I actually, like, left the house? Yeah, my best friend and I went to the mall, which was ultra fun. We went to Bath & Body Works (where I bought a new hand soap for my bathroom) and Barnes & Nobles (I almost got this behind-the-scenes of BBC Sherlock book, but it was $30.00, which is quite overpriced, if you ask me.) Finally, we stopped in Starbucks (which I've grown to be quite fond of in the past month) and got coffee (I got a peppermint mocha, she got some fancy Java chocolate chip iced whip cream thing). When I got home, I took some pictures for the blog, then went over to my grandma's house to spend the night.

I recently bought a Johanna Basford coloring book (Lost Ocean), so I spent most of the day hanging out at my grandma's, coloring the book and watching the news with her. We also got snow - somewhere around 4-5 inches, I think! I was due to have a dentist appointment that afternoon, but because of the unexpected snowfall it was rescheduled to Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday I had my rescheduled dental appointment, which was to tighten my braces - thankfully, it didn't hurt that badly. I spent the rest of the afternoon being deliciously lazy, scrolling through Tumblr + Pinterest, coloring in my book a bit, and rediscovering my love for Lindsey Stirling, particularly Shatter Me.

Wednesday I went over to my other grandma's house! We had loads of fun; we attempted a crossword puzzle, had tea with homemade oatmeal cookies, and tried making bubble-and-squeak! It went generally well, except I think we should have put in more cabbage, as it cooked down substantially once it went in the pan with the potatoes. It was still quite yummy, though.

Thursday was New Year's Eve! I spent the evening with my family - we went out to one of my favorite restaurants, a Lebanese cafe, for an early dinner (I got iced cardamum tea and grape leaves stuffed with beans and rice), and spent the rest of the time playing games and watching movies. We played Last Word! (I won again) and watched a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory, the last third of The Return of the King (we caught it on TV), and all of Star Trek: Into Darkness before toasting to the new year at midnight and heading off to bed. (Note I said bed, not sleep. My first official act of 2016 was to spend a substantial amount of time scrolling through Tumblr. Why am I such trash.)

On Friday I wrote outlines for a few future blog posts. (Hint: possible lyric shoots.) I also tried vegetarian bacon for the first time - the stuff I had contained red beans, tomato paste, maple syrup, and lots of the spices people usually rub onto bacon. It was fairly good, just a tad too sweet for my taste. In the evening, I packed up my stuff and went over to the Wednesday grandma's house to spend the night! (In fact, I'm about to leave right as I'm publishing this!)

Well, that was all I did this week! Not too exciting overall, but it is break, which is when I like to laze around and do nothing because I so rarely get the chance to do so during the school year. What have you guys been up to this week? Comment below, and have a lovely day. <3

  1. On Saturday I went to see The Force Awakens, which seriously seems like forever ago.

On Sunday and Monday I did nothing.

On Tuesday I went out to lunch with my grandma, cousin, and aunt. And then later my cousin texted me from my grandma's phone. She's only seven, so it was fairly entertaining to text her. She sent me lots of emojis.

On Thursday I went shopping with my mom, grandma, and 7-year-old cousin. Then I spent my night watching Friends on Netflix.

Friday I basically just sat around, thought about how much I love Lea Clark, and have been checking Instagram maybe every 15-20 minutes because I'm just that bored. Tomorrow I'll probably send you that email I was telling you about yesterday (well actually technically early this morning) about how happy you've made me these past few days.

So yeah. Pretty boring week. And sorry I basically wrote an entire blog post in the comments.

    1. Oooh how was it? My mom wants to see it with me but I'm not a giant Star Wars fan - would you recommend it?
      hah same.
AWWWWWWWWW Once, my cousin (who's eight) decided she'd use my phone to text my best friend with emojis too, and it was THE CUTEST THING.
      Oooh that sounds fun!
mE TOO Lea is probably coming home the moment I can muster up enough funds (as I was planning on buying Lydia from AGAT and then AG HAD to come out with an awesome goty and no I don't have 220 dollars plus shipping AG thanks for asking. xD)
That's me with blogger xD Oh, sorry I haven't been posting on Instagram that much - I've been "busy" with Tumblr. xD
Oh no no no, darling, it's fine. I always love hearing from you <3

      - Ellie

    2. The Force Awakens was pretty good, so yes, I do recommend it. :) I saw it a week ago today but it seems like I saw it a month ago.

Im glad that you didn't mind my long comment. I'm also glad that you like to hear from me. :)

    3. Isn't it weird how time passes sometimes?
      Always :)

      - Ellie

  2. ooh Johanna Basford colouring books, my mum's got all three ( is there three? idk) and the calendar, she's obsessed (you should see the amount of pencils she has, it's mental)
Oh God, will I now have to explain bubble-and-squeak to everyone who comments now because no one will know what it is?
    $30 for a BOOK? FOR A BOOK? That's outrageous.
Well Ellie, this week I was supposed to do all my revision for mid-year exams (I had a weekly revision calendar all planned out and everything) BUT me being a lazy procrastinating tumblr addict, I've done half of Monday's revision only (and I did that on Tuesday...) so I've got to do eight days work in three days (we get this Monday off as well) so that's great *applauds myself* (also I watched half of Les Mis (film) and God it's awful. Anne Hathaway's alright, but the dude playing Valjean is rubbish. I can't wait to see Samantha Barks, no one will ever be a greater Eponine than Miss Carrie Hope Fletcher)
    Sorry, I'm rambling, I know.
Charlotte (the British one) ( you do realise I'm going to write that every time now, don't you? xd)

    1. I think there's three.
I think your mother and I would get along wonderfully.
I KNOW RIGHT (well it was hardcover so there's that, but all the same.)
Hah same, I have to write a speech for Academic Decathlon. It's due tomorrow, I think. (Although I'm thinking of just using one of my old papers & revising it slightly to make it a bit less dry.)
I KNOW RIGHT. Oh don't even get me STARTED on Valjean. What do you think of Javert? I think Russel is a phenomenal actor, but he just. can't. sing. Samantha wasn't too bad, I think, but still not as good. Enjolras was the only quality one in the whole thing, if you ask me.

      - Ellie (shall I put "the American one"? But there isn't really a British Ellie. And I don't want to piss off the Canadians and Mexicans, who get ultra angry whenever we call ourselves "Americans" because, obviously, they're from the Americas too. So probably not?) (xD)

  3. It sounds like you had a fun week! I was SO lazy this week but I'm gonna be so stressed when school starts back so I think I should get my lazy out now:)

  4. Time has no meaning on break. I do not know what I have been doing for the past 2 weeks of my life, and if I do remember events, I do not know where they fall chronologically.
There was a trip to a mountain with snow somewhere in there. And a trip to Seattle for New Years. The rest I can think of is chilling in my room, tumblring and supernaturaling and stressing about the school work I was not doing. I have a book report to write on good omens, and I'm pretty much done with my math homework. And I have to memorize The Jabberwocky. I wasn't given math homework, I just didn't do it during school.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre in the gimble wabe
    All missy were the borogoves
    And the mome raths outgrabe

    Beware the jabberwock, my son.
The the jaws that bite, the claws that snatch
Beware the jubjub bird and shun
    The frumious bandersnatch.

I forgot the rest. Vorpal blade. Snicker snack. Callooh! Callay! Tulgey wood. Burbled as it came. And as in uffish thought he stood.

Here's to grandmas and soup and cookies!
At Starbucks I like an americano. I've found that If you ask for just coffee, they put sugar in, and I hate sugar in coffee and tea.

    1. Basically yeah.
AHHHHH THAT SOUNDS SO PRETTYYYYYYY. Ooh that sounds cool, did you see fireworks?
Hah same xD Ooh! A book report on Good Omens sounds fun (don't look at me like that I'm a nerd okay?)
Wait is a jubjub bird an actual thing.
      no it is not.
      thank god.
ugh look it up on google images it's scary as heck.
Ah, yes! The slithy toves. I love me some slithy toves, especially gyreing ones.
What is this "Americano" you speak of?
oh my god wHO EVEN DOES THAT. Ugh. I like my coffee and tea black (when I'm having regular stuff and not mochas.) No cream or sugar or ew and WHO EVEN TAKES SUGAR WITH COFFEE.
All right. I am done with humanity now. *retreats to my side of reality* you may come too, if you wish.

      - Ellie

    2. Nope, no fireworks. I was very tired and Cole and Barrett were making a puppet show while sitting on top of me, so I couldn't have gone outside to see hem even if I wanted to.

I will look at you like you're a nerd, no matter what you say. Because that describes the person as a nerd, but not the person doing the looking. The person looking at the nerd is very likely going "same" or "yay I'm not alone!" Or something.

Slithy toves are pretty great. I prefer to stand in uffish thought beneath the tumtum tree.

It's the fancy word for "don't you put sugar in my coffee, jerk." And "leave room for milk cause I don't trust you. You might put too much milk in."

I'll come with you to the other side of reality. We can redecorate that castle in the cedar forest.

    3. How the hell did they do that?
      That is good?
Yes, tumtum trees are pretty underrated.
      That makes sense.
*opens portal for you* Come, friend!

      - Ellie

  5. This was very fun to read. :)
I like your new design btw.

    1. Thank you so much! :) I was worried it looked a bit uncoordinated; I'm glad you like it.

      - Ellie
