Poet Spotlight: E.E. Cummings
Hey, young bloods!
I don't know how many of you know this, but I'm a HUGE fan of poetry. It's so quick and easy to read a few verses whenever you may not have time to pick up a novel or series, and there's so much variety. So today, I'll be sharing one of my favorite poets with you: E.E. Cummings.
E.E. Cummings (1894-1962) is best known for a very avant-garde style of poetry which experiments hugely with punctuation, capitalization, syntax, and format. Instead of viewing those things as rules which one must follow when writing, he harnessed them to accent and emphasize the meaning of his poems. Here are a few of my favorite works of his:
Let's chat! Have you heard of E.E. Cummings? If not, what did you think of these poems? Who are your favorite poets? Comment below, and have an awesome day. <3

Wow this looks like really interesting poetry. A lot of this didn't really make sense to me (I often find reading between the lines extremely difficult) but I must say, the use of punctuation to break up the lines is certainly interesting!
ReplyDeleteHave you written anything in this style as well?

I love poetry. I think my favorite out of these was the second one. Do you know what it is titled?

I've never actually read any E.E Cummings, but I have heard of him. Judging from these poems, he's pretty awesome! My favorite poets are Walter De La Mare, Tolkien(because his books are chock full of poems) and Lewis Carol(who also included a ton of poetry in his books)
ReplyDeleteI agree! I'm glad you like them. Yes, isn't Tolkien's poetry GORGEOUS!?! I've never heard of Walter de la Mare; I'll have to check him out! I'm always on the lookout for new poets :)

I HAVE heard of EE Cummings!! Mostly from pinterest?!? I see poems from Cummings there aaaall the time. And they're definitely beautiful...although I fully confess I know nothing about poetry. Omg I'm terrible. XD BUT ANYWAY. I like the first one the best. :')
ReplyDeleteNAH YOU'RE FINE BABE. IKR, aren't his poems just wonderful?
DeleteThat's my favorite too!

The name sounds familiar, but I haven't read anything of E.E. Cummings that I recall. I like different, unique styles of poetry, and Cummings certainly stands out against your typical rhyming prose.

I agree! I love when there's something distinct about a poet's style that makes them stand out.
