Current TBR Pile #5

Hey, young bloods!

If you're like me, you love reading and have an unfortunate habit of being drowned by your TBR pile. Today, I figured I'd share with you my current list of TBRs - I hope you enjoy. :)

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

After seeing a ton of fandom stuff about this on Tumblr (wink wink nudge nudge), I finally gave in and checked it out on Amazon + Goodreads. OH MY LORD THIS LOOKS SO GOOD. I already ship Patrochilles hardcore, and that cover is just too gorgeous.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I'd seen this book floating around the blogosphere, but I didn't really pay it any attention until I read Áine's review. I LOVE morally grey characters, and a book filled to the brim with them??? SIGN ME THE HECK UP.

Windwitch by Susan Dennard

JANUARY 3RD 2017, PEOPLE. PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDARS.

This sequel to Truthwitch promises to focus on Merik, Prince of Nubrevna and a Windwitch. Although I am firmly of the opinion that the Witchlands characters work best when they're all together and are less enjoyable when separate, I'm still extremely excited to read this as I enjoyed the preceding novel quite a bit.

PLUS THAT COVER Y'ALL. I AM DEAD.

Ruler of the Night by David Morrell

Another impending release (this one in November, I believe), Ruler is the final book in the Thomas de Quincey series and the sequel to Inspector of the Dead. I SWEAR IF EMILY ENDS UP WITH JOSEPH I'M GONNA PULL A MARIUS PONTMERCY AND SLAM MY HEAD INTO A TREE.

(Shush. Do not question the fangirl madness.)

Sea of Glory by Nathaniel Philbrick

SHUSH I KNOW I AM A NERD.

(Also serious Nathaniel Philbrick trash. So why are we even surprised, honestly.)

Now We Are Six by A.A. Milne

And aside from being a nerd, I am apparently also five. But Milne was my childhood and his poetry is gorgeous, so I fully intend to pick up, read, bookmark, dog-ear, and treasure this book very shortly.

Let's chat! What's on your TBR pile? Do you have any recommendations for me? Comment below, and remember that you are all very beautiful pickles <3

  1. My TBR list is higher than Everest, and so what do I do to rectify this problem? Why, I add all of the books you've mentioned to this list, of course! (I'm on nerd self-destruct mode, my friend).

Have you ever read The Red Necklace by Sally Garndner? It. IS. Beautiful. It's set in revolutionary France and is filled to the brim with magic, mystery, murder and, of course, SHIPS! (Syann all the way, baby). I highly recommend it, along with ( does this count, because it's a play?) A View From The Bridge by Arthur Miller!

    1. YOU ARE ME. I AM YOU. WE ARE THE SAME PERSON OH MY LORD.
Ooh, that sounds fantastic! I'll definitely have to check it out :) And I absolutely love plays (*coughCYRANODEBERGERACcough*).

  2. 'Six of Crows' is also on my TBR list! (I mean, so is half of YA ever written, judging by the size of it, but still. It's near the top.) I also need to read Truthwitch, and will grab it whenever it magically appears in my local bookstore. XD

  3. I thought I was always one of the few bloggers who hasn't read Six Of Crows, but I can see I'm in great company. I'm not a big fantasy reader and struggled with her Grisha series and couldn't get through book one unfortunately. I can't wait to see what you think of it. We've got pretty similar tastes in books. Happy reading Ellie, some superb reads there <3

    1. I feel like that with a ton of other books - anything Maas or Schwab, particularly. I guess I'm afraid that disappointment will be inevitable because of all the hype.
      Thank you!

  4. Currently im trying to read The Scandalous Sisterhood Of Prickwillow Place (prickwillow might not be it. The book is in my room and i am on the couch and all i know is that it has a p). Anywho, so far there are 6 girls in a private school for young ladies and their headmistress and her brother just died. (Yeah body count of 2 in as many pages). So now their trying to solve that mystery AND cover up the deaths so they dont have to go back to their boring lives. I will let you know how it goes.
Also im trying to finish the all-in-one edition of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Right now im on The Restaraunt At The End Of The Universe, and i havent picked it up in months so i might have to start over.

My TBR pile is more of a To Be Finished pile.

    1. Ahhh that's such a fun title! Do, please.
WAIT WAIT WAIT. I thought that was one novel??? Is it a series or an anthology or something??? I need to catch up on my geek culture, evidently.

    2. Its several novels all in one. There's the hutchhikers guide to the galaxy, the restaraunt at the end of the universe and so long and thanks for all the fish. They're three books telling different parts of the same story. (Like harry potter. Same characters, new adventure)

    3. Ohhhhhh I get it!
SO LONG AND THANKS FOR ALL THE FISH I AM DEAD.
This sounds like decidedly Pratchett-ish humor. Perhaps I will have to try it out!

  5. My TBR is ridiculous at this point. Six of Crows is on it and I have heard SUCH amazing things, but I am so nervous about picking it up because I wasn't a huge fan of the Grisha books. I can't wait to see what you think of it because I definitely trust your opinion on books.

    1. I feel like I'm the only person in the blogosphere who hadn't even heard of Grisha before Six of Crows burst on the scene?? Hopefully her writing style has changed!
Awww, seriously?? THANK. I am merely a confused Internet nerd.
I'll definitely post a review, or at least a mini one!

    1. Merik was awesome, wasn't he? My personal favorites have to be Iseult and Aeduan, though. :)

  8. OMG YOU ARE IN FOR A GOOD TIME WITH SIX OF CROWS. *shrieks* And honestly it's the perfect time to start because it has a PURELY EVIL cliffhanger and bk 2 comes out in a few weeks. Guess who is ridiculously excited about that? (spoiler: meeeeee)
And I really want to read Song of Achilles! I keep promising myself I'll get it after I read a few more books on my mammoth TBR.😂

    1. Omg I thought it was a brand new release. XD Ahhh, thank God for my timing! I'm expecting to really like it, and waiting for sequels tends to slowly kill me.
I actually just finished it this morning at like 4am, and it.....like.....I don't know exactly what to say, other than I can already tell it will be a novel that will stick with me for a very long time. I think my emotions towards it are mostly good, but THE WHIRLPOOL IS TOO VIOLENT TO TELL.
