Current TBR Pile #6

"BUT ELLIE," you say. "WHY ARE YOU PUBLISHING THESE SO MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY OF LATE?"

Blame it on Goodreads, my friend.

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette by Jeanne Birdsall

um sO APPARENTLY THERE ARE MORE THAN TWO PENDERWICK BOOKS. Why was I not alerted of this?? I must catch up on this series immediately.

The Red Necklace by Sally Gardner

The most amazing Sunset recommended this one to me, and oh my Lord it looks so good. Fantasy + history = the geek and nerd in me being equally pleased.

Plus, there's a DWARF. Who am I to argue with any book that includes a dwarf?

Prince Lestat by Anne Rice

Ehhhhhhh.

Urrrrrrrrghhhh.

This is the concluding book of one of my favorite series - so I should theoretically be eager to pick it up. But I had a pretty bad experience with the last book, so I'm feeling rather uneasy about continuing the series. Although I may not read it for a while, I expect I will eventually, so on the list it goes.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

I FINALLY GAVE IN. I've never read Victoria Schwab before, but I finally read the preview for this book on Goodreads and decided I'm going to try it. It's not a particularly urgent decision, however, so this may sit on my TBR pile for a little bit before I read it, but I would like to eventually!

The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

This is another book where I'm finally giving into the hype - I actually checked it out from the library recently, so I hope to start it soon!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne

I was going to skip out on this one, but Noor's review sold me. Although I doubt I'll like it as much as the original series, Hermione and Draco looked too perfect to avoid.

Let's chat! Have you read HP and the Cursed Child? A Darker Shade of Magic? Any others listed here? What did you think? And what's on your TBR pile? Comment below, and have an amazing day. <3

  1. My godfather recently gave me The Cursed Child as a gift, and I devoured it in one sitting. LORDY LORD IS IT GOOD! I fell in love with Draco's son, and of course with Albus Severus. But Scorpy is my little honey muffin...

ASDFGHJK you're going to read The Red Necklace! YES! Finally, someone else will have read it! Sally Gardener is such an amazing author, and if you like TRN I suggest you go for Tinderbox next: it's one of her only horror books (that I know of) and the ending made me want to scream and cry all at once.

Thanks for the mention! EEK I'm so happy with your TBR List because a) it's eerily similar to mine. I also gave into the Schwab peer-pressure. And b) Sally. My Lovely. Gardener.

(p.s- sorry for the excessive all caps. And the freakishly long rant. I think I'll just go now....*quiet, awkward fangirling*

    1. (p.p.s - Me again. Sorry. But I thought you should know that there are 2 books in The Red Necklace series: the second is called The Silver Blade.

Okay, goodbye for real this time. I mean it. Bye bye.

    2. I LOVE SCORPIUS ALREADY TBH. Mainly because he's related to Draco, and every single Malfoy to ever exist is my precious child. Does Draco's wife appear much in TCC?
      No problem!
Okay, thanks! Are there more that are going to come out, or is it just those two?

    3. I think there's only two books (BUT I WANT MORE!!) and Draco's wife in TCC (Astoria) isn't present much, but they talk about her a lot and she has quite an impact on both father and son.

(And who doesn't have a soft spot for Malfoy? I kind of felt sorry for him...but I fell in love with his kid)

  4. Not a fan of the Cursed Child (read the spoilers on the interwebs). But Scorpius is bae. I ship him with Albus (SURPRISE!). Would be curious to read your thoughts, for sure, though. I am planning on reading The Wrath and the Dawn at some point, too! Heard it was great.

  5. I LOVE the Penderwicks!! I read the first two books years ago and now I have to check out the new ones :) I read the Cursed Child as soon as it came out and I didn't really enjoy it, it just didn't feel like the other Harry Potter books. That's just my opinion though and I know a lot of people who did like it :)

    1. Yeah....I haven't even read it yet and it's already giving me a decidedly non-Potterish vibe. It almost feels more like a fanfic?? Idk.

  6. These look like fab books! I am trying to avoid reading the Harry Potter sequel until I go and see the play... when that will be, I don't know! I've become more of a bookworm than usual this Summer, will refer to this post when I'm seeking another read!

    1. Ahhh yes, if the play was going to show anywhere near me I'd definitely do that too. Good luck with your reading! <3

  7. I have mixed opinions on the Cursed Child. Really the only character that I liked a lot was Scorpius, though I did like Albus and Draco of course. To be honest I kind just finished it for Scorbus and because I felt like I had to. I also didn't like Rose at all... I'm sure that lots of people will disagree with me but she just got on my nerves.

    1. I honestly think those will be my favorite aspects too?? And interesting about Rose - I've heard mixed things about her as well.

  8. I just started The Wrath & the Dawn!! It got so many good ratings that I just had to pick it up. And I have the exact same problem with Goodreads - I find so many good books and add them until my to-read shelf is way too long!

  9. I started reading Cursed Child late last night and have spent every moment that I've been away from it wishing I could be reading it, lol. A Darker Shade of Magic was amazing; it was the first Victoria Schwab book I ever read, and she instantly became one of my favorite authors. Hope you love it, too!

  10. I recently read The Wrath and the Dawn and loved it! 100% lives up to the hype for me. I also read Cursed Child, and I actually really liked it, but it wasn't the best. I hope you can get to all these soon, they sound great!
