The Greek Mythology Tag!

After seeing the lovely Erin @ The Book Archive do this tag, I've decided to appropriate it for my own ends. MWAHAHA.

(Also it looked really fun.)

ZEUS (JUPITER), GOD OF THE SKY + THUNDER, KING OF GODS: FAVORITE BOOK (CHOOSE YOUR OWN CATEGORY!)

This is not only my favorite fantasy book, it's my favorite book of all time. It's a loose, quirky retelling of Cinderella from POV of the good fairy godmother (and her snarky witch companions) trying to get to Cinderella in time to save her from her evil fairy godmother!

HERA (JUNO), GODDESS OF MARRIAGE AND FAMILY: CUTEST BOOK COUPLE

LAN AND NYNAEVE. LAN AND NYNAEVE. L A N A N D N Y N A E V E.

POSEIDON (NEPTUNE), GOD OF THE SEAS AND EARTHQUAKES: BOOK THAT DROWNED YOU IN FEELS

NEVER TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS BOOK. I WILL PROBABLY BURST INTO TEARS ON THE SPOT.

ATHENA (MINERVA), GODDESS OF WISDOM, HANDICRAFT, AND STRATEGIC WARFARE: SERIES WITH THE BEST WORLDBUILDING

As fantasy is taking over the YA genre this year, original worlds are becoming increasingly difficult to find. THIS BOOK, HOWEVER. The worldbuilding blew my mind.

HADES (PLUTO), GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD: FAVORITE BOOK WITH A DARK/OMINOUS PLOT

If you've been following this blog for any length of time, you're probably tired of my inordinately frequent rambles about this book, but THIS BOOK.

There's a vampire who sets out to communicate with his long-dead adopted daughter, except she's SUPER CREEPY and just wants to enslave his soul forever. 10/10 on the creepiness meter. AND IT'S SO BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN. Best book I've read in 2016, for sure.

APHRODITE (VENUS), GODDESS OF LOVE AND BEAUTY: FAVORITE BOOK COVER ON A 2016 RELEASE

One of the great tragedies of my life is that I find the plot of this book horribly uninteresting - because THAT COVER, MAN. I wants to buy it. But I doesn't wants to read it. You see the problem?

ARES (MARS), GOD OF WAR AND BLOODSHED: MOST VIOLENT BOOK YOU'VE EVER READ

It doesn't get much bloodier than this, people.

HEPHAESTUS (VULCAN), GOD OF BLACKSMITHS AND FIRE: BIGGEST FICTIONAL CRUSH

I mean. If you've been reading my blog for any length of time, you'll know that Thorin's my husband, so. Literally who else could I put.

ARTEMIS (DIANA), GODDESS OF THE HUNT AND VIRGINITY: FAVORITE KICKASS HEROINE

As someone on Tumblr once said, if the Harry Potter series were to be rewritten from Hermione's point of view the book titles would be:

  1. Hermione Granger and The Time I Got Those Two Idiots Out of a Crisis
  2. Hermione Granger and The Time I Got Those Two Idiots Out of a Crisis
  3. Hermione Granger and The Time I Got Those Two Idiots Out of a Crisis
  4. Hermione Granger and The Time I Got Those Two Idiots Out of a Crisis
  5. Hermione Granger and The Time I Got Those Two Idiots Out of a Crisis
  6. Hermione Granger and The Time I Got Those Two Idiots Out of a Crisis
  7. Hermione Granger and The Time I Got Those Two Idiots Out of a Crisis

PHOEBUS APOLLO (APOLLO), GOD OF LIGHT AND HEALING: SEQUEL BOOK THAT REDEEMED ITS SERIES

The first book in The Vampire Chronicles, Interview With a Vampire, was probably one of my least favorite reads of last year. The writing, although beautiful, was too slow and meandering to catch or hold my attention. AND THEN COMES ALONG THE SECOND BOOK AND BOOYAH, WE'VE GOT ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALL-TIME READS. That was quite the 180.

HERMES (MERCURY), MESSENGER GOD OF THIEVES + COMMERCE: BOOK WITH THE BEST MESSAGE

H A N D S D O W N.

HESTIA (VESTA), GODDESS OF THE HEARTH AND HOME: MOST RELATABLE BOOK

The fact that the first book that pops into my mind is this - a book about how women everywhere are constantly dealing with oppression, abuse, rape, and fear - just proves how important it is that this book exists.

DEMETER (CERES), GODDESS OF FERTILITY AND AGRICULTURE: FAVORITE BOOKISH SETTING

I mean, what other answer is there.

DIONYSUS (BACCHUS), GOD OF WINE AND CELEBRATION: 2016 RELEASE YOU ARE MOST ANTICIPATING

THE 12TH BOOK IS COMING OUT AND I STILL HAVEN'T FINISHED THE 11TH. THE STRESS IS REAL, PEOPLE, THE STRESS IS REAL.

I NOMINATE:

Adaline @ Not Gary Cooper
Sunset @ The Sunset Sky
Vivian @ Day-Dreamer, Night-Thinker
Christine @ Musings of an Elf
Anyone who, like me, enjoys stealing tags from unsuspecting bloggers.

  1. Oooh, what a fun tag! Sadly, I've never read any of these! Except The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and The Hunger Games. OBVIOUSLY. Those books are LIFE. And YES Middle Earth is the best book setting EVER. Also Thorin. <333

This was a blast to read. Thanks for tagging me! ^_^

    1. It's super expensive too, like $15.00?? For a really small book?? But it's a really small book that's worth $15, so.
OH THANK GOD IT'S ONLY A DUOLOGY. Six of Crows has been on my TBR list for agesss, and I was so scared that when I picked it up I'd be getting myself into a 15-book-series or something. XD
      Thank you! :D
