Bookish Ships #2

The continuation, because I will never run out of OTPs.

5. Ronan and Adam - The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

Although I did initially ship Ronan with Kavinsky, I totally fell in love with this pairing by the end of The Dream Thieves. They're so incredibly different, yet they work together so well. I find their dynamic incredibly fascinating, and I love how it shows off the sides of them we don't usually get to see.

4. Shizuo and Izaya - Durarara!! by Ryohgo Narita

The toughest thug in Ikebukuro and the information broker who likes making his life as miserable as possible. Canonically speaking, they hate each other (and Izaya's obnoxiously straight) but SHHHHH LET'S JUST IGNORE THAT.

3. Jesper and Wylan - Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I SHIPPED THESE TWO SO FREAKING MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEA. When Jesper accidentally kissed Kuwei, I nearly threw my book against the wall. BUT THEY GOT TOGETHER IN THE END, SO I'M HAPPY. I just wish we'd gotten to see a few more fluffy, sweet scenes with them :/

2. Andrew and Neil - All for the Game by Nora Sakavic

(I'm gonna cry, this art is so pretty.)

I seriously shipped these two throughout the entire series, and I felt rather cheated and irked when The Kiss didn't happen in The Raven King, as was implied, but instead in The King's Men. Nevertheless, these two have such a refreshingly realistic (and somewhat hilarious) relationship. AND THEN THEY GOT THEIR CUTE LIL HAPPY ENDING AND THEIR CATS AND I JUST. *cry*

1. Simon and Baz - Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

I. CAN NOT. ARTICULATE. HOW MUCH. I SHIP. THESE TWO.

*DIES*

Let's chat! Who are your bookish OTPs? Do you ship any of these pairings? Comment below, and have an awesome day. <3

  1. i feel like i've corrupted myself to the point where i seriously need to take a step back from the foxhole court because there's nothing like scrolling down and having your brain flooded with andriel quotes as soon as you see the fanart of them.
(i'm still lowkey screaming 24/7 at "yes or no" okay)
i ship all of these pairings, except shizuo and izaya, so this post is just one big happy flailing scream fest for me. xD
outside of these lovelies, i'm a fierce shipper of rhy x alucard (a darker shade of magic), alejandra x rishi (labyrinth lost), cassian x nesta (acomaf), thorne x cress (the lunar chronicles), and cole x isabel (shiver trilogy/sinner).
another lovely post, ellie!! i love seeing what other people ship. ^-^

    1. Oh dear! Honestly, though, I never expected to become as obsessed with it as I am now. You're contagious, Adi. XD

I HAVE TO READ THE SHADES OF MAGIC SERIES, AHHHH. It's been on my TBR for actually forever. :( And my school library has no Schwab books?? Like??? The heck??? They also have 7 copies of The Raven Boys, 6 of The Dream Thieves, and only 2 of BLLB and 1 of TRK. ???? the fuck. And it's definitely not a content thing, because I have found plenty of graphic sex (gay and straight) on their shelves.

      Thank you!

  2. i don't have very many book ships, but the ones i do have are hazel + gus from the fault in our stars and may + patrick from i am princess x.
BUT i do have a bunch of b ships, because we all know i'm a piece of band trash (kellic, ryden, jalex, frerard, etc.), and i ship myself with my computer and my friends ship me with patrick stump from fob (idk why though lol). xD

    1. Ooh, I've never heard of that second book! I may have to try it out. Do you ship Peterick?

  3. I ship Jesper & Wylan, Ronan & Adam, and Simon & Baz so much too!

But some of my bookish OTPs are Lyall & Biffy (Gail Carriger's books), Kit Rook & Ty Blackthorn (The Dark Artifices), Keita & Thaniel (The Watchmaker of Filigree Street), Zaphrim & Safi (Heaven Bleeds Fire...they count as bookish, right?), Tasherit & Primrose (Gail Carriger again), and Magnus & Alec.

By the way, do you happen to have any recs for books with queer characters who aren't gay guys? I always find those harder to find.

    1. WELL OH MY GOODNESS THANK YOU. I'm grinning so much right now :D yes, of course they do! Ohmygoodness, I've never seen Shadowhunters, but I've heard Malec is ADORABLE.

I......shit. Not that many?? I'm about to start We Are Okay by Nina LaCour, which has a lesbian romance, so I'll let you know what I think of that. I've noticed as well that there's a lot more male than female LGBT+ representation. I can say that Blank Spaces by Cass Lennox has asexual representation, Rachel Hartman's Seraphina duology has a trans woman and lesbian girl (though not until the second book), Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin has a gender fluid main character, and Windwitch by Susan Dennard has a lesbian romance. The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice has a ton of bi main characters, but they're all male, so I don't know if that would fit what you're looking for. (Plus, it's definitely not a series for everyone.) And I haven't read Dress Codes for Small Towns by Courtney Stevens (lesbian or bi female mc) or The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson (trans MC), but I've heard they're very good. I hope I (kind of) helped!

    2. A little. I know they're hard to find (it's so frustrating!). Personally, I like the Shadowhunters books better. Yeah, Malec is the best. I picked up Symptoms of Being Human and I was honestly disturbed by Jeff Garvin's perception of what being a trans enby teenager is like (he was totally wrong, and the way he wrote skeeved me out). I'll definitely check out Windwitch and Dress Codes for Small Towns, as well Blank Spaces, though. I thought The Art of Being Normal was awesome, by the way. You should totally check it out.

I love Safi and Zaphrim...I really hope you publish Heaven Bleeds Fire someday.

    3. Hmm! Thanks for your opinion; I'm definitely rethinking that book now. Warning: Windwitch is part of a series, so you do have to read Truthwitch first. They're both quite good, though, so I hope you enjoy! Ahhhh, I will! Oh my goodness, thank you so much. <3 Me too.

  4. Simon and Baz were MAYBE the best part of Carry On. And Adam+Ronan?! Don't even get me started on them, I ship them SO MUCH. What do you think about the upcoming Raven Cycle show? I am scared but also super excited. But I'll be SO upset if they mess it up. And I STILL haven't read Six of Crows, can you believe it? Awesome post, Ellie!

    1. I'm really excited! I hope it will be on a channel I get. I'm pretty interested to see how they'll do Noah, special-effects wise. They have to portray his smudginess without making him look ghostly, right?

Take my Jesper/Wylan screaming with a grain of salt. I loved them, and Kaz was great, but the rest of the book really fell flat. I found the writing to be bland, and I never connected with Nina, Mathias, or Inej. :( I'll be interested to see your thoughts!
