How to Sacrifice to a Troll

I shall tell of a troll who lives under a bridge
Behind this here mountain, on top of a ridge.
He’s filthy and greedy and covered in slime;
He demands passing payment from you every time.

He won’t accept Dollars or Euros or Francs
Or anything else you can take to the bank
Instead he wants candy and pencils and kites
And candles and cabbage and porridge-just-right.

He also likes bowties and scissors and steaks
And top hats and textbooks and big birthday cakes
And apples and flowers and old lima beans
And cameras and paintings and flying machines.

But the best of all payments are discarded dreams
Congealed baby blood and reality’s seams
Torture devices that stole all your breath
Vices and virtues that led you to death.

Skulls of the innocents brutally slain
Scars up your arms speaking only of pain
Thoughts that are hopeless and sobbing and stark
Prayers that are evil and desperate and dark.

Whenever you venture across that old bridge
Behind this here mountain, on top of a ridge
Be sure to bring treats for a troll doused in slime;
He demands passing payment from you every time.

Something out of the archives to tide y'all over until I can put together a post that consists of more than copy and pasting from Google Drive.

My internship (recently got promoted!) and preparations for school have been murdering me and my free time. I feel like I haven't had any time to truly catch up with many of you lately. So tell me! How are your writing projects going? What are your most recent and current reads? And if you enjoy poetry, who's your favorite poet? Comment below, and have a fabulous day.

Namarië,
Ellie

  1. For some weird reason, this reminded me an awful lot about this goat under the bridge story some people in kindergarten performed. It's good to hear your internship is going well!!!

  3. my favorite poet: you.
    how long has it been since you posted poetry? I love it. The last i can remember is all the words i didn't say...or maybe one with weird formatting. I remember reading it on the bus as it pulled away from the high school.
