Reading 80 Books in 8 months | A Bookish Tag

Êl síla erin lû e-govaned vîn!

WELL, THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS A THING THAT HAPPENED. Except for Sauron Incarnate being in my APUSH class, this year looks like it'll be pretty fun - and busy.

And you know what busy Ellie means!

It's time to pillage tags from other blogs, stick them up here, and ignore the fact that they get a quarter as many page views as the rest of my posts.

Today, I'm stealing a book tag from the lovely Andrea @ A Surge of Thunder. If y'all get a chance, you need to check out her blog. It's such a treat!

Now - onto the questions.

What books are you currently reading?

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss - I mean?? I like it? It's well-written. But I already know how Kvothe's story ends, more or less, so there's very little suspense. It's hard to get excited about the plot.

Artemis Fowl and the Opal Deception by Eoin Colfer - I mean, when aren't the Artemis Fowl books amazing?

What's the last book you finished?

I SO did not expect to enjoy this book. It's historical fiction - no warlocks, no dwarves, and not even a measly dragon. Why would I enjoy it?

Favorite book you've read this year?

If any of y'all have read my ramblings for any length of time, you know I can't stand either sci-fi or survival stories. The Martian is both, and the fact that I adored it just goes to show how incredibly talented Weir is. Even if you avoid sci-fi, I'd recommend giving this one a go!

What genre have you read the most this year?

I've actually started keeping track of this lately in preparation for some really cool end of the year stat roundups. According to my calculations, the genre I've read the most this year is contemporary.

W H A T.

But I hate contemporary. Why am I reading so much of it??? Beats me, fam.

What genre have you read least this year?

Hold onto your hats, folks, this is a five-way tie. I've only read two books in each of these genres: Christian, nonfiction, romance, memoir, and retelling.

What genre do you want to read more of?

Click here for my recent review of The Thief by Stephanie Landsem!

Christian! I'm agnostic, meaning I don't know if a god exists or not. But part of me being agnostic has always been exploring religion, both to see if it might resonate with me and out of curiosity. I want to try to understand the psyche of religious people, starting with Christians since I go to a Christian school and have many Christian blogging pals.

How many books have you read this year, and what's your goal?

I'm actually pretty proud of myself for this - I've read 80 books in 8 months! I know I'll have a lot less time to read now that school's started, but I'm still fairly certain I'll complete my goal of 100 by December 31st.

What's the last book you bought?

What books are on your wishlist?

Uh.....all of them?

How many books did you check out at your last library visit?

O MY. It's been so, so long since I've been to the library. I think last time I was there, I checked out...two books. Books one and two of the Barnaby Grimes series, a quartet of books about a young detective in London's paranormal underbelly.

What book are you dying to read next?

LOOK HOW PRETTY. And the last installment ended on SUCH a bombshell. I CAN'T WAIT.

What series would you recommend to everyone?

That's adorable. You thought I could go an entire post without mentioning the best middle-grade series in the entire universe.

Who's an author you hope writes more?

A woefully abridged list:
  • Francesca Zappia
  • Cale Dietrich
  • Nathaniel Philbrick
  • N O R A  S A K A VI C
  • Natalie C. Anderson

A few favorite books?

From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg - The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands - The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice - I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai - Bunker Hill by Nathaniel Philbrick - Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett - The Pushcart War by Jean Merrill - The King's Men by Nora Sakavic - Mrs. Pollifax and the Second Thief by Dorothy Gilman - many, many more.

What series's coming conclusion makes you sad?
